How to 'trap' Elf on the Shelf inside your television

It's nearly Christmas and the cheeky Elf on the Shelf has been wreaking havoc in family homes across the nation.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the elf is sent by Santa to keep an eye on children and make sure they're on their best behaviour.

However, when the kids are asleep the mischievous elves get bored and cause mayhem in a different part of the house each day.

Towards the end of the festive season, parents can lose some of their creative flair and struggle to come up with weird and funny situations to put the elf in.

However, there's a new and simple idea perfect for parents who are in a rush or have misplaced the elf and all that's needed is YouTube and a television.

If you have a smart TV, go to the YouTube app and type "Elf stuck in TV".

The video will show the Elf seemingly stuck behind the screen with the caption: "I hit the wrong button on the remote... How do I get out of here?"

The video is an hour long, meaning you can set it up before your kids wake up and it can entertain them while they eat breakfast.

Parents without a smart TV can still use the trick by playing it on your phone and casting it to the TV.

Failing that, you can always trap the blue-eyed elf inside your phone instead of the television.

The YouTube videos have already gained thousands of views from parents eager to impress their kids.
