How to transform your bedroom for a better night's sleep

With heavy rain forecast for the next seven days, many Brits will be returning their attention to their immediate surroundings and potential home improvements.

For those looking to update their bedroom, Nectar Sleep’s resident expert Patrick Ross offers his top transformation tips that could even help you get a better night’s sleep.

Find clever storage solutions

Space – or indeed a lack of it – can sometimes be a barrier to your bedroom feeling like a place you can truly relax. However, you don't need infinite room to be stylish.

A big declutter is a great place to start and not only will your local charity shop benefit from the items you no longer use, it’s a great way to remind yourself of some long-forgotten outfits. Invest in a minimalist clothes rail to help keep things feeling organised. Similarly, if you can’t build out then build up. Stacking boxes are not only purse friendly but a great way to save on space.

Bring outdoors in

Houseplants have multiple benefits. Not only can they add a much needed splash of colour but also contain air purifying qualities which may result in a better night’s sleep. On top of this, many people report feeling more comfortable and relaxed when surrounded by greenery, making a new plant the perfect bedside table addition.

Rejig your furniture

Over the past year, many of us have seen our sleep spaces become makeshift office meeting rooms. A furniture switch around can make a world of difference, starting with your bed. Typically, a bed placed against a main wall will give you more space to play with, then you can arrange your other furniture around it in size order, creating natural pathways through the room. Avoid blocking out natural light and don't forget about smaller details such as direct access to plug sockets.

Never underestimate the power of good lighting

Adding multiple light sources is another way to refresh your bedroom and create a relaxing ambience. Avoid harsh ‘hospital style’ overhead lighting at all costs and instead look to table lamps, dimmer switches and low wattage bulbs.

Update your bedding

New bedding can change the entire look and feel of your bedroom. At Nectar, our 100% cotton Sateen bedding sets provide a slice of hotel luxury in a home setting, meaning you will be thinking about crawling back into bed as soon as you get up in the morning.
