How to spot Santa flying through the sky on Christmas morning

Excited children will be able to wave to Santa as he shoots across the skies of the UK on Christmas morning.

The sleigh will appear as a bright light streaking across the sky as the Big Man heads back to the North Pole after dropping off all his presents.

Anyone looking to spot the sleigh just needs to look up at exactly the right moment.

Fortunately, the appearance of the sleigh in the sky meets up with the time the International Space Station will be visible - meaning you can download an ISS tracking app to spot the exact time and position for wherever you are in the country.

The first pass for Santa's sleigh will come at around 5.30am - when the sleigh can be seen 30 degrees above the horizon towards the South East for a total of one minute - as Santa heads in an easterly direction.

Then you'll be able to get a much better look at around 7.02am with a six-minute streak across the sky, starting in the West South West about 10 degrees above the horizon and climbing as he heads East North East.

You can grab an app to track the station, which Santa will be following, or just use a compass on your phone.

Check the NASA website for the exact timings near you. In the West the best time will be 7.02am. Santa then hits London and the East a minute later
