How to spot £270 fake diamond from the £6k sparkler - with one subtle difference

When it comes to precious stones, do you know your four Cs?

Could you differentiate between a fake and the real deal?

If so, then Daniel Anania of Anania Jewellers has a photo for you to put your skills to the test.

Australian jeweller Daniel shared a photo of two identical engagement rings - one with a real diamond and one with a very convincing cubic zirconia.

If you are thinking of laying down some serious cash and popping the question, he's helpfully revealed how to spot a fake by highlighting some subtle differences to look out for.

Daniel shared a photo of a cubic zirconia engagement ring worth £270 next to a £6,000 diamond design with the  Daily Mail .

He pointed out that the fogginess of the stone is the best indicator of whether it's real or not.

"If the stone is too clean inside and is being sold too cheaply it is probably fake," he added.

He also explained that real diamond ring come with a laser inscription on the band with their certificate number AND the weight of the band is usually a giveaway for whether it cost a small fortune or not.

The jeweller recommended: "Feel the weight. Silver is light, gold is heavy and platinum is even heavier."
