How To Spin Faster In Skate

Momentum and flow are the two most important elements in skate. Once you figure out all the grab tricks, fine-tune your settings, and pull off that iconic Christ Air, you’ll likely be looking to get better lines. Spins are a great way to do so, as they add a lot of variety to your skateboarding, and they can be combined with grabs.

However, the default spin speed in the game is a bit slow, and the animation can ruin your flow if your focus is on skating fast, intense lines. Fortunately, prewinding your spins can fix this. Here’s how to spin faster in skate

Speeding Up Spins In Skate 4

Before we get into the mechanical technique of spinning faster, make sure that prewind spins are enabled in the settings:

  • From the Settings menu, go to Gameplay
  • Go to the Trick Toggles tab, then scroll down till you find Prewind Spins, and make sure it’s on.
  • Just under that, you’ll find Prewind Control Style. Make sure this is set to Hold in Spin Direction

By default, those settings should already be enabled, but it helps to check if you played around with the settings before. With that out of the way, here’s how to spin faster in skate:

  • Start pushing and get to maximum speed. Pushing four times is enough for this.
  • Hold down the right stick on your controller, and your skater will ready themselves for an Ollie. Holding down the stick is what you call “prewinding” in this game.
  • As you’re holding down the right stick, hold down the left stick as well.
  • Move the left stick to the left or to the right, depending on where you want to spin. Just like setting up for a pop shuv-it
  • Finally, flick the right stick upwards, and keep holding the direction on the left stick. You’l notice you pop-up and spin much faster.

This technique works because it focuses on timing and energy building. Prewinding, in general, is a great way to build more vertical movement for any trick, and it also increases speed. Think of it as tightening a spring; the more precise and longer your pre-wind, the longer and more fluid your release. It feels natural once you get the hang of it, and the best part is that you can chain it with grabs or tweak it midair to clean up your landing.

With that said, keep in mind that this isn’t the best option for vert skating. When you’re launching off halfpipes or big ramps, the extra hang time already gives you enough room to complete full spins and flips. Pre-winding with the method above and giving direction with the left stick before the jump might push you further in the direction you’re holding. This can ruin your line. Other than that, this technique is perfect for off-the-ground spins.
