How to spend Father's Day at a barbecue with former Leeds United striker and pundit Noel Whelan

Kids can surprise their Leeds United mad dads with a visit to meet former Whites striker Noel Whelan on Father's Day.

Whelan netted seven goals in 48 appearances for Leeds at the start of an impressive career, which also saw him turn out for the likes of Coventry City and Middlesbrough.

He has since returned to his roots though and is now an outspoken pundit on BBC Radio Leeds' matchday commentaries.

The 44-year-old will be a guest at a huge community barbecue in west Leeds this weekend to celebrate Father's Day,

The big event is being hosted by the T.V. Harrison Sports Ground support group, who are campaigning to prevent houses from being built on former football pitches in Wortley which were once graced by the likes of Brian Deane, David Batty and Whelan himself.

Dubbed the 'Wembley of Wortley', the playing fields have strong historical links to Leeds United as the venue for the Leeds City Boys club, a representative team made up of the best players from Leeds' schools.

Paul Reaney and the late Paul Madeley are others to have played on the pitches in years gone by.

The community barbecue at the former playing fields on Oldfield Lane, Wortley, is a chance to find out more about the campaign, but also offers families the chance to unwind with fellow Whites fans.

There will also be a raffle, face painting and cakes for the kids (and big kids!).
