It was a busy week in Fortnite: Battle Royale. This week saw the start of a brand new battle pass and the start of Season 5, complete with a raft of map changes, a brand new item class and even Mario Kart-style 4-person Golf Carts to match the brand new golf areas. Over the past two seasons Epic has put a lot of work into the art of the big day, and the start of Season 5 showed just how far the game has come from the relatively undifferentiated map it started with. So now that we’re cooking on finding out everything that the Season 5 battle pass has to offer, let’s take a look at how to solve all the Week 1 battle pass challenges and unlock new secrets.
As usual, this week came with two challenges that ask you to go to specific places on the map, as well as a bunch of other combat-oriented challenges. Let’s take a look:
- For where to go to search 7 floating lightning bolts, check here.
- For where to go to follow the treasure map in Risky Reels, check here.
- For how to solve the rest of the challenges, check here.
And, like last season, you can get a hidden free battle star if you complete every Week 1 battle pass challenge and then go to the location indicated on the unlocked loading screen.
Other than that, we’re still looking through all of what Epic dropped in the big day on Thursday. For a rundown on everything included in the big v5.0 patch, check out the patch notes here. Most of what was added was pretty obvious, like the new desert biome, the mountaintop Viking Village, the Golf Carts or the Golf Course, but there were some more subtle changes too, like some shotgun damage adjustment, a nerf to the popular double-pump strategy and auto-fire options for mobile. We also got accessibility options that add visual indicators for sound effects on all platforms, a boon for deaf players or even just those with the volume down low.
And because it’s a new season, we’re also getting a bunch of new paid skins along with the battle pass skins. For a sneak preview of some of what’s coming, check here. We’ve already seen the Magnus skin, and the rest are likely on their way soon.
For those looking forward to see what’s going to change with the map and narrative as we go forward, we have a few hints. For one thing, there’s sand coming out of giant crack in the sky, possibly indicating that we’re going to see an expansion of the desert biome along the lines of the Wild West assets that leaked before Season 5 started. There’s also been some chatter that there might be a pyramid growing out of Loot Lake, but it looks a bit more like a glitched texture to me.
So stay tuned: there’s a lot more to come. Epic seems to only be ramping things up for Season 5, and we should see some new map changes coming as early as this week.
