How to report rapid Covid test results in Scotland amid surge in cases

Scots have been urged to report the results of their rapid coronavirus test once they receive it.

The Scottish Government announced in April that anyone without symptoms of Covid will be able to order lateral flow home test kits.

Each pack contains seven lateral flow devices which can provide a test result in around 30 minutes.

It is hoped that the regular test kits will be able to spot asymptomatic cases that may have previously been missed.

Public health officials say that around one in three Scots with Covid do not display any symptoms of the virus.

Nicola Sturgeon has urged Scots to take a lateral flow test at least twice a week in a bid to slow transmission.

And while the kits are good for the personal benefit of Scots, reporting any result is important for NHS Scotland and other health chiefs to carry out research on the state of the pandemic.

Reporting a positive test is particularly important as you stop the virus from transmitting by self-isolating for 10 days.

Scots could also be eligible for a self-isolation support grant of £500 during the period of quarantine.

Results from a lateral flow device can be reported on the UK Government website and should be submitted on the day you take the test.

Users will then be asked to scan the test strip QR code on the device or record the number underneath.

You will then be asked to submit details of where you live, your date of birth and your name as part of the process.

Scots should take a confirmatory PCR test if they receive a positive test result from a lateral flow device (PA)

Scots will then receive a text message that gives them confirmation of their test result.

NHS Scotland says that a negative test does not guarantee that you do not have coronavirus and only reflects on a specific point in time.

Anyone who tests positive must self-isolate immediately and book a PCR test within 48 hours to confirm the result.

Contact tracing will then be carried out as soon as you report a positive test result.

The Scottish Government confirmed a further 1,104 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours earlier today.
