David Seymour, former readers' editor of the Daily Mirror, has written a practical guide for journalists entitled Reporting Poverty. He argues that there is a widespread refusal to accept that many British people really are poor. Too many journalists evidently subscribe to the urban myth that people on benefits are well-off.
