How to remove stains from cups and make them sparkle... for pennies

If you're a keen tea or coffee drinker , you'll know how difficult it can be to get stubborn stains out of cups and mugs.

However, one cleaning connoisseur has revealed a genius way of getting mugs sparkling white in under 10 minutes... and it'll cost you next to nothing.

Sharing her hack on a popular Mrs Hinch cleaning group , Emma Bartlett said: "This gets asked a lot so thought I’d show before and after pics for cleaning stains from mugs. No need for special cleaners, just used a teaspoon of soda crystals and fill the cup with boiling water.

"Leave for 10 mins, longer if you like but not needed. Then just wipe out. No harsh chemicals in your cup and no stains, simples."

Emma's mug cleaning hack has been a big hit with Mrs Hinch fans (Emma Bartlett)

The mug cleaning hack was an instant hit with shoppers, and many rushed to share their own top tips and tricks for cleaning up crockery.

"Hot water and plenty of salt and lemon juice also," advised one Facebook user.

Another added: "Tiny drop of Milton, boiling water and let it sit for 5 mins."

"Toothpaste helps," suggested somebody else.

While a fourth said: "I pop a Steradent in mine specially bought for this reason. 99p for 30 tablets. Works for a number of things, not just false teeth."

Emma's soda crystal hack takes just minutes and will cost you pennies. Tesco is currently selling 1kg bags of soda crystals for £1 , so we estimate the hack will cost less than 10p per cup as a whole - if not a lot less.

This isn't the only clever cleaning tip to be popular with shoppers at the minute.

Earlier this week we shared Angela Marie King's top tip to get trainers sparkling clean for less than 50p.

Posting on Facebook,  Angela Marie King said: "After washing these constantly and not being able to get them back white, I was going to put them in the bin! Then I tried elbow grease and a dishwasher tablet.... they are like new! WOW!"
