How can one nurture joy in an unborn child in the womb? Of course, we can nurture joy and love in an unborn child. Scientific studies have proven that a child can hear, understand and absorb information from the outer world and also absorb and react to their mother’s feelings and thoughts. Thus, if the mother is Happy, that Happiness will flow to the baby in the womb. This is one of the most effective ways to nurture values of joy and ensuring a happy beginning for a child.
Spirituality teaches us that we are not this body, mind and ego. This body is formed in the course of nine months in the mother’s womb. We are, in reality, a soul. It is the soul that is life energy in a fertilised zygote. Soul is a-- Spark Of Unique Life-- a spark of energy from the supreme immortal power that we all call, God. Hence, we can say that the child that is being nurtured in the womb of a mother is a manifestation of the Divine. It is the Divine, God, that manifests in a life form inside the womb. The child grows and understands everything. So, whatever the mother absorbs, the child can feel and absorb it too as it is deeply attached to the mother. A mother’s love for her child is a love that flows from one Soul to the other and is also bound by a Divine connection. Therefore, we can nurture the baby with joy, morals and values in the womb itself so that he/she has a beautiful environment filled with happiness at the start of life, outside the womb too.
But do we nurture our child with Happiness and values? We may or may not believe that an unborn child can hear or understand us but it is unfortunate that in today’s world, children who are out of the womb of their mothers, who can walk and talk are also not being nurtured with any values and morals or worse, with wrong teachings. We must nurture our child with values and truths from birth to death - from the womb to the tomb. This is what we are responsible for. We must nurture our child in the most important period of his/her life - the formation period. The formation period is when a child has not yet developed their own intellect and its power of will and choice. It is at this time that a child can be truly nurtured.
Very often, the question asked is – What makes a child? Is it nature or nurture? Some people believe that it is only the genetic material that will create a child's future but even if nature plays a role, nurture is equally or even more essential in shaping the future of an individual. If, as parents, we create an environment of positivity, health and happiness for a child from the time that it is born, the child will remain positive and happy, till the time he/she is gone.
We must also not just let our child be nurtured with what he/she naturally learns. It is unfortunate that the child remains a fool because of what the child is taught in school. We let a child believe in the lie that God lives in the sky. We let a child grow up with all myths. When are we going to stop and help the child, realise the truth? We can't teach a child the truth in the womb. We can’t teach about self-realisation and God-realisation but we can definitely teach a child the difference between the myth and the truth, once the child starts to walk and talk.
Therefore, while we will listen to scientists and pay attention to an unborn child in the womb, it is practically difficult to do this because we will have conversations with hundreds of people and those conversations will reach the child within the womb. We can take all precautions to nurture the physical body of an unborn child. We can take care of not having any evil or toxic thoughts or emotions during pregnancy but let us work more towards that stage of a child’s life when he/she is out of the womb. Let not the child zoom from the womb to the tomb without being nurtured with anything. Let us teach the child, the happiness secret. Let us teach the child - what is his birth’s purpose and let’s not let his/ her life be a circus, where they'll be like a clown, jumping up and down. As parents, we are responsible for nurturing joy but if it is not inside the womb, we can at least try to build a character, give the child a purpose and show the direction. Before a child starts to walk, run and then fly, let us teach a child not to tie its wings with strings but to go on a quest and discover, ‘Who am I? Why am I here?’ This seems to be the better way to teach a child, how to be happy, to teach a child, the possibility of eternal happiness and how to live a life with true joy, peace, love and bliss.
Concluding the discussion, we can say that happy parents make a happy child. Bringing one’s child into an environment that is full of happiness, love, peace and purpose will truly nurture great joy and love in a child’s life. Understanding and realising the purpose in life will make the child a better person and this world, a better place to live. So, as parents, we must be happy so that we can raise happy children. If we are happy, that happiness will flow to one and all. So, let us make this commitment to see God in all, love God in all and serve God in all. Let us take a vow to nurture happiness and joy in every child, unborn and born, and make this world a happier place.
