How to pronounce Shola Shoretire's name as Manchester United prospect makes first-team debut

Shola Shoretire made his first-team debut for Manchester United on Sunday, during their 3-1 win over Newcastle United.

The 17-year-old was included in the senior matchday squad for the first time against Real Sociedad in midweek, though it was Amad who made his first-team debut on that occasion.

Shoretire was again included in the squad on Sunday, and with the game well and truly wrapped up, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided that it was time to introduce the teenager, who has impressed for the under-23s so far this term, scoring a hat-trick against Blackburn two weeks ago.

In the 89th minute, Solskjaer withdrew goalscorer Marcus Rashford, another academy graduate, and introduced Shoretire.

But how do you pronounce the latest prospect's name? Well, United provided an official qualification on the issue. Shoretire is pronounced 'Shor-ay-ti-reh'.

After making his debut, Shoretire provided an emotional response on social media. Simply and rather beautifully, he posted three photos of him in action with the caption, "Dreams really do come true."

Solskjaer also reacted positively to Shoretire's debut, explaining that his inclusion - and the example it shows to other young players at the club - is simply what United as a club do.

"It's in our DNA, it's what we do at Man United, and it's important that our kids know when they're good enough they're old enough," the United manager said.

"Shola's done really well. This was the next step up for him we felt."

Solskjaer even added that players departed in January to allow Shoretire more playing time. "In the transfer window, we let players go out and made the path for him shorter," he added.

"He'll remember his five or six minutes on the pitch tonight."

Shoretire, who has five goals and three assists in 13 Premier League 2 games this season and is viewed as one of the brightest talents in the United youth set-up, is not the only young player to make his United debut this week.

Amad, who only signed with the team in January, made his debut from off the bench in Thursday's win over Real Sociedad.

Solskjaer admitted that a decision has not yet been made on whether Amad could start in the second leg this week.

"We'll make a decision on that after Newcastle," he said last week. "He's [Amad] had a couple of games in the reserves. We'll take it lightly.

"There's still a few players that were on the bench tonight that will want to start of course, but Amad is getting closer. We'll see how much game time he'll get."
