How to pronounce new Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel's name as German replaces sacked Frank Lampard

Chelsea have themselves a new manager with their head coach role vacant for only just over 24 hours, but how do you pronounce his name?

Frank Lampard was sacked after around 18 months in charge on Monday and it was no secret who his successor would be with Chelsea already decided when they made the decision.

Thomas Tuchel was that man and it took the Blues only just over a day to get the job done, appointing the former PSG and Borussia Dortmund boss this evening on an 18-month contract with a possibility of an extension.

Tuchel took training for the first time at 6pm at Cobham this evening (Wednesday) ahead of his first game in charge, against Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Speaking about his appointment, Tuchel said: "I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff.

"We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard’s work and the legacy he created at Chelsea. At the same time, I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football.

"I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family - it feels amazing!"

So, Tuchel is all wrapped up and confirmed as the new Chelsea boss, but how do you pronounce the German's name?

According to Forvo, Thomas is pronounced 'Tomas' with extra emphasis on the 'a' and Tuchel is pronounced with the 'ch' sound commonly used in German and Welsh.

The 'ch' is pronounced much like you would say 'Loch Ness' as in'Loch Ness monster'. The 'e' is also left out, making it more like 'Tuchl'.

You will, of course, heard the name pronounced many different ways, particularly in the media with commentators often pronouncing names differently, particularly initially.

However, this is the German way to pronounce the name, according to Forvo, who provide pronunciations for words in a variety of languages.

Chelsea fans will get their first look of Tuchel - and we hope you pronounced that correctly in your head this time - on Wednesday night when the Blues take on Wolves at Stamford Bridge on BT Sport with kick-off at 6pm.
