House of the Dragon has been developed by HBO Max, which in turn is owned by Warner Bros Discovery.
WB has a vast array of developers and studios across media and the streaming service has used this network to create augmented reality (AR) video game for Game of Thrones fans.
Launched back in June, the game was made to help celebrate the impending release of House of the Dragon, which is available to watch on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
Titled House of the Dragon: DracARys, it allows you to immerse yourself into the world of Westeros while you’re waiting for new episodes of the prequel show to drop.
What is House of the Dragon: DracARys?
For anyone that played Pokémon Go back when it took the world by storm in 2016, they will be familiar with how this game works.
Essentially, it allows users to look after their own dragon, watching it hatch all the way up until it can fly across the skies.
You will see it engage with the world around you, as the game requires your camera to operate.
The synopsis reads: “In this immersive, free-roaming AR experience, you will steal into Westeros to claim a coveted dragon egg as your own, and return to our world to raise your tiny Hatchling into a mighty dragon.”
Using augmented reality technology, it brings the character models into your own home.
How to play House of the Dragon: DracARys
To play the game, your phone will need to have ARCore software installed on the device.
This will allow it to use the AR technology necessary for the video game to perform.
It is completely free to play for users, available on both the Apple Store and Google Play.
Once downloaded, you will then be able to “thieve an egg from Westeros” and watch as your dragon grows up.
How to watch House of the Dragon in the UK?
House of the Dragon will premiere exclusively on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK on August 22.
It airs weekly at 9pm on the channel, with it also available through the Entertainment package on NOW.
There will be 10 episodes in total, with more seasons expected later down the line.
