How to order HSE antigen tests for free as new Covid testing and isolating rules take effect

The HSE will send free antigen tests to anyone aged between four and 39 years old with Covid-19 symptoms.

It's part of new rules in a bid by the Government to ease some of the pressure on the health system when it comes to testing.

Thousands of people are attempting to book PCR tests, with the majority of centres showing no available appointments on the HSE website.

As a result, officials changed the advice for those who are awaiting a test and those who are self-isolating.

When should I look for free antigen tests?

From Monday, anyone aged between four and 39 years old who has no underlying health conditions but has Covid-19 symptoms will not be advised to automatically seek a PCR test .

Instead, they are being told to self-isolate immediately and to take regular antigen tests.

If they test positive on an antigen test, then they should seek a PCR test.

How to get free antigen tests?

On top of that, the HSE will offer free antigen tests to close contacts aged 13 or over who do not have symptoms of Covid-19.

You will get a text message with details of how to get your free antigen tests, if you are a close contact.

You will need to contact the HSE or your local GP to order the tests otherwise.

To get a pack of tests ordered, you can click here.

They should arrive via An Post within two to three business days.

If you do not receive them, phone the COVID-19 helpline on 1800 700 700.
