How To Make Your Office Pet-Friendly If You’ve Convinced Your Boss To Let You Bring Them In

PetSafe

Friends, you know what I love about working at PEDESTRIAN, aside from readily available fridge cigs (Coke Zeros), the PR treaties and my beautiful colleagues? My beautiful colleague’s dogs. Yep, the PTV office is a pet-friendly office, so on any given day there’s a delightfully cuddly pooch roaming the halls. We truly are #blessed. And PetSafe informed us that ‘Take Your Pet to Work Week‘ (June 22 – 26) is right around the corner, for all of you still trying to convince your own bosses to partake in the festivities.

Apparently, it’s one of the fastest-growing workplace calendar moments — as it should be. Studies consistently show that pets in the workplace reduce stress, improve morale, and increase job satisfaction, and a growing number of companies are taking note.

So as more workplaces open their doors to our four-legged friends, the bar for what “pet-friendly” actually means is being raised. That’s where PetSafe comes in. The good pet people are making it easier than ever for workplaces to set up their space to be genuinely pet-friendly. For an office to be certified pet-friendly, it needs to tick four main boxes — hydration, mental stimulation, toileting, and routine.

Hydration for office pets is surprisingly overlooked. According to PetSafe, pets drink significantly more from a running water source than from a still bowl, and in a busy, stimulating environment, staying hydrated matters. PetSafe’s Outlast Pumpless Pet Fountain ($143.99) ensures pets have access to fresh, filtered, flowing water throughout the workday.

Despite being in a new office environment, pets still need a good dose of mental stimulation. A bored or anxious pet at work can be a distraction (sometimes a welcome one). PetSafe would encourage some office enrichment toys to turn downtime into something more purposeful for your pet.

The PetSafe Busy Buddy Kibble Nibble feeder ball ($25.49) taps into a dog’s natural foraging instincts by dispensing kibble as they play, keeping them engaged. Or the Freezable Treat Holding Chilly Penguin ($10.99) can be loaded with your pet’s favourite snack and frozen, giving dogs a long-lasting, cooling activity.

While you collect your second coffee of the day, it’s always a good idea to take your furry friend for a toot break. Limited or unpredictable outdoor access is one of the key reasons workplaces hesitate to go pet-friendly.

PetSafe make it easier with their Pet Loo Portable Toilet ($176.99), which offers a clean, practical indoor toileting solution that removes the stress of having your pet shit near your boss’s desk.

Routine is everything, especially if you’re taking your pupper into an unfamiliar environment — it’s a lot for a pet to process. Disrupting their feeding schedule on top of that adds unnecessary stress to an already stimulating day. Pets are heavily regulated by routine, and a missed or late meal can tip a settled animal into restlessness. PetSafe recommends getting an automatic feeder for the office, like the FlexFeed Automatic Pet Feeder ($119.99), so you can keep things consistent.

If you’re keen to update the office to be a little more pet-friendly, PetSafe has a range of drinking fountains, automatic feeders, enrichment toys, pet toilets, litter boxes, and odour control solutions — that are worth adding to your office shopping list.

Plus, for the next few weeks (until June 30), the good folks over at PetSafe are giving our PTV readers 15 per cent off a bunch of products when they use the code ‘PETWEEK26’. Offer excludes any products already reduced. Not to be used in conjunction with any other promotion.
