Christmas is finally here and so is mulled wine season! We at Dublin Live are obsessed with the popular festive tipple and couldn’t be happier.
And as temperatures are dropping to subzero, there’s no better way to warm up than sitting in front of a roaring fire with a cup of the sweet and spicy wine (the spicier, the better!).
If you’re hosting Christmas dinner this year, why not impress your guests with some delicious homemade mulled wine?
Here’s how you can make mulled wine at home:
This recipe serves four people.
Ingredients
1 litre dry red wine
2 (5cm) cinnamon sticks
1 dessert spoon whole cloves
1 dessert spoon whole allspice
1 large piece orange rind (avoid the pith)
1 large piece lemon rind (avoid the pith)
4 tablespoons sugar or to taste
Method
In a heavy saucepan over medium heat combine the red wine, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, lemon rind, and orange rind.
Heat gently but don’t bring to boil, stir in 2 tablespoons of sugar, and once dissolved, taste to see if you’d like to add more.
Keep hot on medium to low heat for 20 minutes to let the flavours infuse the wine
Serve your mulled wine hot in glasses or mugs and enjoy.
If you like your mulled wine spicy, you can add some star anise while on the hob. And for an added kick, you can add a shot of whiskey at the end.
