How to Land High Jumps in Skate 4

Falling from a tremendous height is one of the best ways to set up lines and land some fantastic trick combinations in Skate 4. If you can manage to get on top of a skyscraper or a large building, your number one goal after jumping off is to successfully land on your skateboard on your next ramp so you can keep the momentum you built while falling. However, landing these high jumps is much easier said than done in Skate 4.

Many players have difficulty getting their skater to land at all, as crashing into or onto a ramp is extremely common after starting from a high distance. Fortunately, there are a few concrete tips and tricks that you can use to make landing from any height a breeze in Skate 4. Below, we’ll show you exactly how to land all of your future high jumps in San Vansterdam so your lines are never ruined again.

Landing High Jumps In Skate 4

For starters, a high jump is considered anything that sees you fall for over 10-20 meters. You usually can’t get that high unless you actively fall off a building or use a ramp to cross a major gap in the city of San Vansterdam. For example, going from a ramp on one building to another ramp on another building across the city would be considered a high jump.

The main issue players have with high jumps is getting their skater to land on the ramp they’re aiming for. Since you usually lose your skateboard while falling through the air, you have to know when the right time is to call your skateboard back, what part of the ramp you should land on, and what speed you need to hit the ramp at. These are all crucial factors in landing a high jump in Skate 4, and you can see what we recommend for each one below.

Ways To Land High Jumps

Recalling Your Skateboard

  • The most important element of landing a high jump is the timing of when you bring your skateboard back after falling. You don’t want to recall your skateboard too early or too late, as either situation will likely result in your character crashing.
  • The best time to recall your skateboard during a high jump is roughly one second before you intend to hit the ground. This gives your skater enough time to level the skateboard, but not too much time that you gain extra speed while holding the board.
  • The timing will take some practice to nail down, so set a marker at the location of a high jump you want to try, and continue attempting to land with the one-second rule in mind.

Spread Eagle

  • The next major element of landing a high jump is the speed at which you hit the ground when falling. Coming in too fast will result in your skater crashing nearly 100% of the time, so you have to find a way to slow yourself down enough so that you don’t hit the ground too hard.
  • Really, the only way to feasibly do that is to use the Spread Eagle mechanic while falling through the air. This involves your skater extending their arms and legs in the air, like a skydiver would, so that you add some resistance to your fall. You don’t have to Spread Eagle the entire time you’re falling, but doing it a few seconds before you hit the ground will ensure you break your fall enough.

The Ramp Angle

  • Finally, the last part of landing a successful high jump is the angle you hit your intended ramp at. If you hit the ramp too far up or too far down, you’ll just bounce off the ground instead of gracefully riding down it.
  • For most ramps in Skate 4, you want to hit it at 3/4s the way down, just over the halfway point. Hitting the ramp too far up will lead to a crash more often than hitting it too far down, which is why we recommend going beyond the halfway point instead of in front of it.
  • If you aim for the lower part of the ramp, but not too close to where it levels off into the ground, you should be able to land most of your high jumps.

Those are the main tips we have when it comes to landing high jumps in Skate 4. Like everything with this game, practice makes perfect, but as long as you’re using the right mechanics, you’ll get it down eventually.
