Knee-tucking is a slick grab modifier that makes an air elevate to impressive style. In Skate 4, the input is simple, but timing and decent stick control matter just as much as other grab tricks. It’s not just about looking cool either — knee-tucks can be used as a visual modifier for other grabs.
So let’s get started adding flair to an air. Here’s what it is and how to pull it off:
How To Knee-Tuck

Knee-tuck is a frontside grab, but you pull your front knee up — tucking the board in close. The controls are straightforward:
- Hold the front grab button — L2 on PlayStation & LT on Xbox.
- At the same time, push and hold the Right Stick to the Right.
- Keep both L2/LT and the Right Stick held until you prepare for landing.
The Right Stick input is what triggers the knee-tuck. If you grab without it? You’ll get just a regular front grab.
Note: If you remapped controls or use Legacy/Standard presets, confirm front-grab mapping in settings.
Step-By-Step
- Begin by rolling towards a kicker or lip at moderate speed (several pushes)
- Next, pop off the transition or ledge — keep it clean.
- Hold LT or L2 immediately and push the right stick to the right. Keep holding RS while airborne.
- Spot your landing — release the controls to drop back in cleanly. That’s it.
It’s simple, but the timing matters. Too early or too late, and the sequence can be botched. Repeat with varying timings if you’re unable to get it right.
Tips For Consistent Results
- Don’t jerk the directional input — keep it smooth for consistent results.
- Trigger RS hold right after the pop (not before it)
- If the stick input feels off, lower the Right stick’s deadzone slightly.
- Try Realistic mode or reduce assists for precision.
Build Into Combos
Once knee-tucks feel natural, start pairing them and pull off clean lines:
Variation line:
Pop an air -> Knee-tuck -> hold LT/L2 while pushing Right Stick Up for a front tweak -> Land to fakie -> Pivot 180 revert
Vert setup:
Pump in -> Launch off quarter-pipe / transition -> Knee-tuck -> Release LT/L2 -> Before landing, hold LT/L2 again + push Right Stick Right (Late grab) -> Drop back in
Knee-tuck into shifty:
Pop -> Knee-tuck -> Release L2/LT -> Push Right Stick Left OR Right -> Drag to initiate shifty -> Land back in
Small directional movements change a lot here. Think finesse, not force. Also, try out the Stiffy next — another front-truck grab trick that’s worth learning.
