How to kickstart your career in education – live chat

A school teacher may be the obvious option, but there are a huge range of roles in the education profession. From university lecturers, bursars, special educational needs assistants to examiners, there are roles for a variety of skillsets.

Among other things, the industry is known for having high job satisfaction and for being a worthy career path in the eyes of society. A recent survey into job satisfaction, by the Office of National Statistics, found senior professionals in education came 11th, and people who worked in primary and nursery education came 13th, out of the total 274 occupations ranked.

If you're looking to start a career where you get back as much as you give, and have a passion for supporting learning and sharing knowledge, then it might be the right choice for you.

There are many routes into the profession, often with high competition. So whether you want to know how to kickstart your career in teaching or lecturing or are not sure how to make the move from your current role, ask our panel of experts on Wednesday 30 April from 2pm to 4pm.

We'll be discussing:

• Routes into education jobs and other career options

• Getting relevant work experience and training

• How to make your application stand out

The Q&A takes place in the comments section below this article. Taking part is easier than ever: you can create a free Guardian account, or log in using your Twitter or Facebook profiles to comment.
