How to increase Power level fast in Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate

The Edge of Fate introduced multiple overhauls to Destiny 2‘s core systems, including Power. Now, increasing Power is the core pursuit in the game—you should grind for items that increase your Power level to access higher difficulties that reward better loot.

Here’s everything you need to know about Power and how to level it up quickly in Destiny 2.

Everyone’s Power level was reset to 10 in The Edge of Fate. This creates a level playing field for everyone jumping into the expansion and removes the confusion of obscure numbers, like 2020+, during Episode Heresy.

From The Edge of Fate expansion moving forward, here are the Power bands you can aim to reach:

  • 200 Power: Permanent Hard Cap
  • 450 Power: The Edge of Fate Seasonal Bonus Power

The maximum Power you can get with the launch of The Edge of Fate is 450. With the Ash & Iron major update later this year, the cap will increase to 550. The Seasonal Bonus Power resets with the new expansion, meaning when Renegades comes out in December, your gear will return to 200 Power.

power progression is shared across characters

Power level is shared across all your characters. This means if you reach Power level 250 on one character, the drops you get on another character will also be 250+, even if they were at Power level 90.

How to increase Power in Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate

Play The Edge of Fate campaign

The first thing to do is complete The Edge of Fate campaign. By the end of the story, you’ll be at around 140-150 Power, depending on whether you spent some time doing other activities and side-quests in between missions.

This is the fastest way to hit the 200 Power cap. Ideally, you want to do the campaign on Legendary difficulty, as you get more rewards and an Exotic armor piece at the end. You should also keep an eye out for secrets on Kepler throughout the campaign, as they offer loot with even higher Power boosts.

Play activities in the Portal

The rest of the Power (and loot) grind takes place in the Portal – the new hub of all activities in Destiny 2. There are four types of activities in the Portal: Solo Ops, Fireteam Ops (similar to old Vanguard Ops), Pinnacle Ops, and Crucible.

To increase your Power and get better loot, play high-difficulty missions and use a variety of modifiers that increase the final reward.

Here’s how to maximize your farming in the Portal:

  1. Choose an activity with multiple completion rewards and/or with bonus drops (Pinnacle Ops like Encore are a good choice).
  2. Customize the difficulty and modifiers to maximize your Reward Rank and Completion Reward.
score bonuses:

In the Rewards Pass, there are Score Bonuses that increase your total score in Portal activities. This means that even if the projected rank is just short of A, you can still hit maximum rank with good performance.

Portal activities rotate every week, with minor daily changes to the playlists and Bonus Focus rewards. Always check the Portal for new activities and focused gear so that you can farm new weapons, like the Mint Retrograde Rocket-Assisted pulse rifle.

Complete Seasonal Conquests

In The Edge of Fate, Conquests replaced Grandmaster Nightfalls and the pursuit of the Conqueror title. There are six Conquests per season across three difficulties, each awarding a one-time reward of a high-tier and Power level loot.

Play weekly campaign missions

Much like with older campaigns, every week you can replay two The Edge of Fate story missions for additional loot with a seasonal Power bonus. Completing missions on Fabled difficulty awards Tier 3 gear, while Mythic awards Tier 4.

Use the Wayback Machine

You can go back to the older Destiny 2 season passes and claim any rewards you might’ve missed using the Destiny 2 Season Pass Wayback Machine. Weapons and armor from older season passes come at your current Power level. While it won’t directly increase your Power, it allows you to bring any items that hold you back to the current level.
