Course overview

Everyone wants to make a good impression in the workplace and to feel that they are able to have an influence on their projects and peers. This course draws upon key elements of communication, presentation, assertiveness and influencing to provide an understanding of how verbal and non-verbal language define how you are perceived by others and how you can leverage them to create maximum, positive impact.

What do we mean by ‘impact’

Creating a first impression

  • Understanding different energy states

Verbal and non-verbal language

  • Facial expressions and eye contact
  • Reading body language and using it to your advantage
  • Using space and what it signifies
  • It’s not just what you say, it’s how you say it – language, tone and volume
  • Understanding different conventions and boundaries

How to influence others

  • Know who you need to influence and what makes them tick
  • Assertiveness vs agression
  • The importance of listening and making people feel valued
  • Be positive and authentic
  • Tips on how to appear to be authoritative
  • Examples of strategies employed by successful people
