How to identify an Aswang in Phasmophobia

While most ghosts have been part of Phasmophobia’s lineup since the start, a few have been added in fresh updates over the years. One such ghost is the Aswang, introduced alongside the launch of the Alan Wake event.

Since this ghost is much newer than most others, figuring out what makes it special and how you can spot it may be rather tricky. You likely have years of experience with the rest of the lineup, but with this one, you’ve got none, so here’s how to identify an Aswang in Phasmophobia.

The Aswang has three official types of evidence you can catch to identify it, which are DOTS Projector, Freezing Temperatures, and Ghost Writing. In any contract where you spot all three, you’ve got an Aswang on your hands, as this is the only ghost that can have this precise combination. Here’s a breakdown of how to get each one.

Evidence How to get
DOTS Projector Place a DOTS Projector down in the ghost room and witness the ghost pass through it. You can catch this behavior in person or through a Video Camera.
Freezing Temperatures Use a Thermometer to check the temperature on the map. If you get a reading below one degree Celsius or 33.8 Fahrenheit in the ghost room, you’ve caught Freezing Temperatures. Seeing your breath in the air does not count as evidence. Instead, you must rely solely on the Thermometer to accurately check for this.
Ghost Writing Place a Ghost Writing Book in the ghost room and have the ghost write in it. Any writing or drawing in this book counts as evidence, as ghosts who do not have this type will never do either.

It can oftentimes be tricky to identify the Aswang based on official evidence alone. Because of this, it’s a good idea to keep an eye out for additional behaviors, patterns, and clues tied to this unique ghost. Here are all the extra details you can watch for.

  • Cannot kill you in any official hiding spot ever. This includes locations like closets and lockers. Unofficial hiding spots don’t count, though, so you must be careful where you choose to hide to successfully evade it.
  • If the Aswang detects and reaches you in a hiding spot , the hunt immediately ends .
  • Can sometimes hunt with no grace period. This can occur when the Aswang ends a hunt by detecting and reaching you in a hiding spot, as this then allows them to put a waypoint directly on the player’s location at the beginning of the next hunt, allowing them to then move to it at the start of the next one, even during the grace period.
  • Accelerates faster using line of sight than any other ghost , which means when it has you directly in its sights, you’re in big trouble. The Aswang’s line of sight speed increases at a rate of 0.0375 times its base speed per second instead of the usual 0.025, allowing it to reach its maximum speed of 2.53 meters per second after just 17.33 seconds instead of the usual 26 seconds required for other ghosts.
  • Although the Aswang can move faster than any other ghost using line of sight, it otherwise has a slower base hunt speed .
  • The Aswang’s base speed is 1.53 meters per second .

If you’ve checked for all the official evidence and additional behaviors listed here but don’t think what you’re seeing quite lines up with an Aswang, it’s time to start checking for other possible culprits. Next, try testing for the Kormos, Obambo, Gallu, and Dayan.
