Windrose is a pirate survival crafting adventure, where you make your way from a deserted island to explore the world and discover its secrets. While you can play solo, the game has an option to play in co-op through an in-game feature or using a dedicated server.

How to host and join games in Windrose
Playing co-op in Windrose is very straightforward. When selecting a game mode, you can choose between Solo/Offline, Host a Game, and Connect to Server options.
To host a game:
- Select Host a Game.
- Choose a world.
- Set the number of max players, server name, and password.
- Copy the invite code.
- Start the game.
After starting the game, you can find the invite code and the password in the escape menu.
A game can support up to eight players, but the developer notes that going above four may significantly impact the server’s performance. The ideal Windrose experience is still best for a crew of up to four players.
To join a game:
- Select Connect to Server.
- Enter the invite code.
- Select the server and join the game.
Much like Terraria or Enshrouded, the characters in Windrose aren’t tied to the world. This means you can enter a new world with a kitted-out character. At the same time, if you want a fresh experience, remember to create a new character before hosting or joining a new world game.
How to host a dedicated server in Windorse
You can also host a dedicated server on your PC through the Windrose Dedicated Server tool on Steam. The app is available for free, even if you play the game on EGS or Stove. The exact setup depends on your platform, so make use of the official documentation to set up the server.
A dedicated server allows others to connect and play even if the host isn’t in the game. However, as with any dedicated server, the host’s machine should remain on for others to join and play. If that’s not an option, you may consider paid hosting platforms, like Nitrado, which is the game’s official partner.
Does Windrose have PvP?
At the time of launch, Windrose doesn’t have PvP and is a solely co-op adventure. With servers up to eight players, the experience is all about sailing and exploring together. There’s currently no information as to whether the developer plans to introduce some form of PvP (e.g., an optional setting like in Valheim), but that currently doesn’t seem to be a priority.
