How to help foodbanks in your area struggling to cope with demand

The ongoing coronavirus has led to a "real crisis" for many foodbanks.

Even before the pandemic began they were experiencing high pressure but now, with people fearing for their income as businesses are forced to close and supermarkets struggling to keep up with demand, the need is even greater.

Hyperlocal news and information platform InYourArea, which has more than three million users, has partnered with Give Food to create a tool allowing people to enter their postcode and find out exactly what their closest volunteer-run foodbanks are currently short of.

Try it for yourself here:

Give Food founder Jason Cartwright said: "Even before coronavirus became a problem food banks were experiencing unprecedented demand and the recent situation has created a real crisis.

"We're proud to be able to help InYourArea augment their hyperlocal service to help their users to discover what food banks near to them are requesting."

InYourArea editor Tom Gibbon added: "This is the latest example in a rapidly growing number of innovations and initiatives we have undertaken at InYourArea to help communities tackle the vast changes coronavirus is pushing upon all of us."
