How to get Whitestone in Palia

Besides revamping some of the existing mining features, Palia’s Elderwood update has added shiny new node types and acquirable materials, one of which is the uncommon Whitestone.

As Palia’s biggest update ever, the Elderwood expansion has introduced a bunch of new quests, which are designed to help you explore the region and its exclusive features. For example, the Nature of Shadows quest requires you to source 10 Whitestone for Subira. Whether you’re wondering where to find it in the vast “Ancient Overgrown Forest” of Elderwood or how to make some slabs out of these pretty stones, we’ve got your back.

Where to find Whitestone in Palia

You can obtain Whitestone by mining Stone nodes in Palia’s Elderwood region. Stone nodes are less common in Elderwood than in Kilima Valley or Bahari Bay. Be sure to check along cliff edges for smaller nodes that are easy to overlook, like these:

You can find a bunch of large Stone nodes near the cliffs of Mauvais Way. If you’re having trouble finding Stone nodes in Elderwood, don’t worry—the map below highlights several reliable locations you can revisit regularly to farm Whitestone in Palia.

For more potential Stone node locations, just visit the areas marked in grey on the map: Those are cliffs, and these always have Stone nodes spawning along their edges. Other ore nodes in the region may drop Whitestone too.

If you’re not willing to do so much work to source Whitestone in Palia and have some Gold to spare, you can get the Ore Compass. When activated, the compass tracks all Silver, Gold, and Platinum nodes, large-sized Stone, Whitestone, Copper, Iron, and Palium for 15 minutes. It doesn’t work on small Stone nodes or Clay. The recipe unlocks at level eight mining and can be purchased from Hodari’s Mining Guild for 2,500 Gold. You can take the Ore Compass to Mauvais Way to track the large Stone nodes there and farm all the Whitestone you can.

We recommend bringing a Fine Pickaxe for your mining runs in Elderwood. Although a Standard Pickaxe can break small Stone nodes, it won’t be effective against the larger ones, which yield significantly more Whitestone. If you don’t own it already, the recipe for Fine Pickaxe unlocks at level six mining.

To get Whitestone Slab in Palia, you need to purchase its recipe from Hodari’s Mining Guild Store first. The recipe unlocks at level five mining and costs 300 Gold. Once you have the recipe, you can make one Whitestone Slab out of two Whitestone in a Smelter.

Whitestone Slabs are essential for crafting two powerful Intro quest items, which will make your Elderwood journey much easier in Palia:

  1. Stables Sign: Lets you travel to anywhere in Palia on a Riffroc for a modest fee. You’ll need 30 Ancient Wood Plank and seven Whitestone Slabs to craft.
  2. Elderwood Idol: When equipped, it can track forageables. You’ll need 12 Whitestone Slab, 12 Grumpy Granite Rockhopper, and an Enchanting Runestone to craft.

Besides equipment, you’ll need a lot of Whitestone Slabs if you’re planning to redecorate your Housing Plot with the new range of Umbraan furniture pieces, introduced with the Elderwood update.
