Palia’s latest Elderwood update has spiced up the cozy life sim’s fish collection with 20 new species, one of which is the Toadstool Floatfish. If you want to know where to find this little creature, we’ve got your back.
Elderwood hosts a bunch of flora and fauna types, but only a few of them look as mystical as the Toadstool Floatfish. You’ll be tasked to bring one of these to Tamala in the Nature of Shadows main quest to help her make the Elderwood potion. While catching this kind of fish isn’t much of a challenge, finding one in a region full of water bodies can be exhausting, especially if you aren’t aware of where to look.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Toadstool Floatfish in Palia.
Toadstool Floatfish location in Palia
If you nudge Tamala for some information, she’ll suggest you to “fish in the lakes without any bait.” That’s all the official information you have on Toadstool Floatfish. Now, if you look at the Elderwood map, which is full of several ponds, whirlpools, channels, and other water spots, you may not know what to call a lake.
Don’t worry though, as the map below marks the best Toadstool Floatfish fishing spots to help you complete the quest in no time.

A sure shot way is to visit the De Mer Dock. It’s a little away from the Central Stables, which is the location of the quest, but the journey is totally worth it if you’re looking to catch a lot of Toadstool Floatfish. And if you’re looking to catch star-quality, just dip your rod in a fishing hotspot, which appear as small rings of bubbles.
You can find the Toadstool Floatfish at any time.
How to catch the Toadstool Floatfish in Palia
Like Tamala says, you don’t need bait to catch a Toadstool Floatfish. So, make sure you don’t have worms equipped to your fishing rod when you dip it.

While the fishes in Palia’s Elderwood region are supposed to be tougher to catch than those in Bahari Bay and Kilima, the Toadstool Floatfish is surprisingly easy to fool. Like other species, you need to play a fishing minigame here too, but the difficulty level is the same as a Bahari Bass or Sardine. Just follow these steps:
- Dip the fishing rod with just a bobber at a potential spot.
- Wait for a sound cue indicating the first nibble. Wait for two more and then start reeling once the water pops.
- Keep the bobber within the green brackets and reel the fish in.
Congratulations, you’ve now got a Toadstool Floatfish to give to Tamala, complete the Nature of Shadows quest, and get one Elderwood potion for free. If you have caught more than one, you can also sell them or keep them in your Aquarium.
You don’t need to use a fancy fishing rod or bobber to catch a Toadstool Floatfish in Palia. I was able to catch several of them with just the Standard Rod and the default bobber, but you can add a minor Rod Health Booster if you’re struggling with the reeling part. You’ll need the Fine or Exquisite Rod for other fishing adventures in Elderwood, so better be prepared.
