Each Fortnite season comes with its own unique loot pool, which oftentimes hides many secret weapons that can be tricky to get your hands on. One of the rarest and most powerful ones in Chapter Seven, season two is The Foundation's Rift Rifle.
While most weapons and tools can be obtained as random loot from anywhere on the island, this isn't the case with this special item. Where to find The Foundation's Rift Rifle in Fortnite
The Foundation's Rift Rifle can be obtained from the New Sanctuary POI, which is near the bottom right corner of the Chapter Seven, season two map. At this location, you can find and hire The Foundation NPC, who is the only character that can help you get your hands on it.
How to unlock the Rift Rifle in Fortnite
You can get the Rift Rifle by completing The Foundation's challenge, which asks you to eliminate three opponents. Initiating this process takes a bit of work, though, so here's a full breakdown of how to make it happen.
- Visit New Sanctuary. It's generally best to land here straight from the battle bus, as there's only one Rift Rifle available in each round, which means you'll want to start working on earning it right away to avoid missing out.
- Earn 750 gold bars. Loot chests, cash registers, and deceased players to quickly earn gold bars. You need at least 750 before you can start obtaining this gun.
- Find The Foundation. This NPC hangs around the New Sanctuary POI and is key to getting your hands on the Rift Rifle. He can be found wandering around inside the giant triangular building at the center of this location.
- Hire The Foundation. Once you find this character, chat with him and spend 750 gold bars to hire him as an ally.
- Eliminate three opponents. As soon as you hire The Foundation, a special challenge will start. He asks you to take out three enemies to prove that you're worthy of wielding his special gun. Find and vanquish three opponents, which can be both enemy players and hostile NPCs like the Ice King and Dark Voyager Echo, to finish this trial. Progress in this challenge is tracked in the upper left corner, and there's no time limit for completing it, but the sooner you get it done, the sooner you unlock your prize.
- Claim the Rift Rifle. Upon successfully eliminating three opponents, The Foundation's Rift Rifle will spawn on the ground next to him. When it does, it'll automatically be marked, making it easy to find even if this NPC wanders away from you a bit.
What does the Rift Rifle do in Fortnite?
The Foundation's Rift Rifle is a modified version of the regular DMR, which means it can be fired similarly to the classic version of this weapon, but also possesses some unique perks. Specifically, you can charge up your shots with this gun to spawn a rift wherever you shoot. It can be used to deal serious damage, too, although its firing rate is a bit slower than a regular DMR. This weapon is Exotic, though, so it makes up for this with increased damage output. Overall, it's one of the best weapons in the loot pool this season.
