Your ship is like your second home in Windrose. To explore the seas and take on dangerous enemies, you must keep your ship repaired. You should also take some time and work on the ship’s upgrades to increase its firepower and survivability.

Here’s how to maintain your ship in Windrose, from repairs to upgrades.

To maintain your ships in Windrose, you need to build a Wharf. A Wharf unlocks during the I Need a Bigger Boat main quest, after you get your first Ketch. Much like the Fast Travel Point, you can only build a Wharf near the coastline.

Here are the resources you need to build a Wharf:

  • Wood x10
  • Coarse Fabric x10

At the Wharf, you can manage and customize all your ships, assign Flagships, and build new ships. If you want to disassemble one of your ships, you can do that at the Wharf, too, and get back 100 percent of the resources.

You can repair your ship at the Wharf. Interact with the Wharf at your base, select a ship, and click the Repair Ship button (ship icon with a percentage). A ship repair costs 20 Wood, regardless of the ship’s current health, so don’t throw away resources to fix five or 10 percent.

If you’re on the move and in need of emergency repairs, you can also use a Repair Kit. There are different tiers of Repair Kits, and you can find them all over the world when exploring or craft them at a Workbench. To use a Repair Kit, add it to the ship action panel in the Flagship tab of your inventory. As you’re sailing, press the action menu keys to repair the ship.

Every ship has gear slots for cannons, hull modifications, naval tactics, and crew equipment. Much like your armor and weapons, ship gear comes in different rarities and levels. You can craft and upgrade ship gear at Shipwright’s Workshop – early items require Copper Ingots and Rough Hide to craft.

Here’s every type of ship gear and what it affects:

  • Cannon: Improves the ship’s damage.
  • Hull modification: Improves the ship’s defenses.
  • Naval tactic: A passive perk. Perks range from increasing damage under certain conditions to improving reload speed and repair kits.
  • Crew equipment: Improves the crew’s power when boarding.

After crafting the gear, head to the Wharf, select your ship, and select Manage Ship. This is where you can drag and drop gear into the corresponding slots.

While you may be able to find new ship gear while exploring the world, a reliable way to get better ship gear is by buying plans on Tortuga from Smugglers of Port Royal or Rogue Buccaneers factions. As you turn in Blackbeard Insignias to respective Bounty Agents, you gain reputation and unlock new wares to buy.
