DELTARUNE Chapter 3 has a secret boss, Roaring Knight, whom you can hope to defeat only if you have an S Rank. But it’s nearly impossible to do so without items and equipment from not only Chapter 3 but from Chapters 1 and 2 as well.
Nevertheless, Roaring Knight himself is not a secret, as he appears every time towards the end of Chapter 3 after you defeat the main boss, Mr. Tenna. Furthermore, the story continues to progress, regardless of the outcome of the fight against the Roaring Knight. What truly makes him a secret boss is the fact that you can find exclusive rewards if you do manage to defeat him.
So, if you’re wondering how to defeat the Roaring Knight in DELTARUNE Chapter 3 and receive these secret rewards, even if it takes multiple attempts, here’s how you can do it.
Where is the secret boss in DELTARUNE?
Roaring Knight, the secret boss in DELTARUNE, appears every time after your final fight in Chapter 3 against Mr. Tenna. While the host of the TV show is having an exchange with Kris, Susie, and Ralsei, the screen goes black with only a white cutout of Mr. Tenna as two blade-like red shadows chop off both his arms. This is where we are first introduced to the Roaring Knight, leading up to a fight against him, which will end in certain defeat for you.
So, if you wish to retry the fight and defeat the Roaring Knight instead of carrying on with the story, you should save the game after your fight with Mr. Tenna and load up from that point after every defeat against the secret boss. However, there are quite a few items that you need to stock up on if you want to have any chance at beating the Roaring Knight for the secret rewards.
How to prepare for the fight against Roaring Knight
There is a whole list of requirements that you must fulfill before you can have even a sliver of hope against the Roaring Knight in DELTARUNE. For this, you will need to get the overall S rank and then defeat the mini-boss and collect the Shadow Mantle.
Once you have completed both of these tasks, you will need to equip the best possible weapons and armor before the fight. We recommend collecting high-tier equipment such as the Hevilstail or the Twin Ribbon from the previous chapters of DELTARUNE. However, if you started the game off fresh with Chapter 3 and don’t have access or the patience to go through the first two chapters, you can still take a shot at defeating Roaring Knight.
The Shadow Mantle is a must-have, and it is best to equip it on Susie for her Rude Buster ability, which is highly effective against the secret boss. Additionally, make sure that you have the game saved at the point after defeating Mr. Tenna so that you can keep loading it up as many times as you need to defeat the Roaring Knight.
How to defeat the Roaring Knight secret boss in DELTARUNE
Before you get disheartened after checking the percent of damage done to the Roaring Knight’s health pool following your first round of attack, you should note that you only need to deal around 25 percent of his health pool as damage to defeat him. The best way to do this is by constantly attacking the secret boss with Kris while also making the most of Susie’s Rude Buster ability. The best role for Ralsei is to constantly heal the other two.
It is very Important to have REVIVEMINTs and BUTJUICE in stock before heading into this fight, as you might have to revive as well as heal several of your characters in the middle of the encounter. The Roaring Knight has several different types of attacks, most of which deal massive damage and can one-shot any of your characters.
However, some of his attacks can be a bit easier to dodge in comparison. Try to take as little damage as possible and build up your Tension Points (TP) for counterattacks when you run into one of these rounds. Needless to say, you might have to attempt this fight quite a few times before you can finally beat the Roaring Knight secret boss.
Once you do manage to defeat him, you will receive two special rewards, one secret weapon and one special crystal. The Black Shard weapon and the Shadow Crystal are two secret items that you will unlock by beating the Roaring Knight. While the Black Shard is expected to be a high-damage weapon that comes in handy during Chapter 4 and beyond, the Shadow Crystal is expected to play a part in unlocking special equipment in one of the future chapters.
And yes, in case you were wondering, the game does transition from Chapter 3 to Chapter 4, regardless of the outcome of your encounter with the secret boss.
