Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate's new location Kepler is full of secrets and discoveries to be made, including an all-new race of humans known as Aionians.
There are several red chests around Kepler that you cannot open right away and require certain abilities so that you can reap the rewards within. Some are tied to Matterspark, others are tied to the Rosetta ability that lets you decipher the language of the Aionians, and others are tied to the Relocator ability.
Another type of chest, though, says it "requires undiscovered technology." This technology is known as Mattermorph, and it's just another that you need to be able to explore and discover all that Kepler has to offer.
Here's how to get Mattermorph, one of the new destination abilities on Kepler in The Edge of Fate.
How to unlock Mattermorph in Destiny 2 Edge of Fate

Mattermorph is unlocked during the campaign of The Edge of Fate, specifically at step 19 of 31 in the main quest line. It can be unlocked during the The Outer Steppes Strangelet quest, in the mission named Morphology.
Mattermorph basically allows the Guardian to shape pre-selected parts of the environment to create new pathways and reach previously unreachable areas. It also allows you to unlock Mattermorph chests, which are red chests that have the weird, gross, bulbous growths on them.
The game describes this as "bending matter into new positions" but really, you're just picking stuff up to manipulate them for your benefit. At times, it's reminiscent of building ramps in Fortnite, but there are several applications to be used.

You can pick up Mattermorph and then use it on nearby areas of the environment that have a light white glow to them and reach new areas or find secrets.
