How to get free tickets for the 2020 Blackpool Illuminations switch-on party

Free tickets to the 2020 Blackpool Illuminations switch-on concert are up for grabs.

The biggest occasion in Blackpool's calendar sees an all-star concert at the town's outdoor arena after the famous lights are turned on.

In 2019, thousands people watched the official switch-on concert at Tower Festival Headland.

Busted, Becky Hill, Nina Nesbitt, Sigma, Diversity and Club MTV DJs R3Wire and Varksi performed.

The event marks the first night of the world-famous Blackpool Illuminations.

Last year, Coronation Street actress Lucy Fallon pulled the famous switch.

The illuminations draw around four million visitors to the town each year and run for 66 nights along the town's seafront.

The acts set to perform at the 2020 event have yet to be announced, but organisers have promised it will feature a 'star-studded line-up'.

The name of the celebrity billed to turn on the light show is still under wraps.

However bosses have announced the switch-on will take place on Friday, September 4, 2020.

Coun Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool council: “Switch-On night is a magical occasion and the demand for free tickets gets bigger every year.

“The 2019 Switch-On was a brilliant success with Lucy Fallon flicking the switch.

“It’s a night not to be missed and I would urge people to apply for their tickets now – it could be the best free night out you’ll ever have!”

The event is free for up to 20,000 people who enter the ballot to secure tickets.

Hopeful party-goers need to register online here and winners will be drawn at random - although half of the allocated places will be automatically reserved for local residents.

The ballot will remain open until midday on Monday, August 3, 2020 and the lucky winners will receive up to four free wristbands per household.
