How to get free access to UK wartime records ahead of Remembrance Sunday

One of the biggest genealogy websites is offering customers free access to their UK wartime records ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

Ancestry is one of the largest genealogy companies in the world and operates a network of genealogical, historical records, and related genetic genealogy websites.

The site is offering customers the chance to bring their history backstory to life with their new deal.

The deal includes free access to UK wartime records from today until Friday, November 12.

Those who use the deal will usually be able to use it o Remembrance Sunday (when many do a search), but as that is on November 14 this year, the deal is running early but covers Armistice Day.

You'll need an Ancestry account before you can search the records - sign up for a free 14 day trial here.

Ancestry also say to get the most out of the wartime records, you’ll want to first build your tree.

Go back as far and wide as you can, including great aunts and uncles. These records are a great place to start.

If you already know details of your ancestor’s wartime experiences, Ancestry recommend you search specific collections.

The collections are vast on Ancestry.co.uk but here are some below you can choose from:
