How to get Fast Track passport and how much it costs

As Covid restrictions come to an end, the demand for abroad travel has increased and with it an increased demand for new passports. Because the demand for a renewal service has reached an all-time high, holidaymakers have been warned of delays of up to 10 weeks.

Despite this, the government offers a one week Fast Track service which will allow you to renew your passport on short notice but at a premium price. The Fast Track service covers a wide range of needs relating to passport renewal can be used to:

  • renew an adult or child passport that has expired or that is about to expire
  • change personal details on your passport (for example your name, place of birth or gender)
  • replace a lost, stolen or damaged passport

How much does Fast Track cost?

According to the government website, the Fast Track service will cost for the following:

  • £142 for an adult passport (or £152 for a 50 page frequent traveller passport)
  • £122 for a child passport (or £132 for a 50 page frequent traveller passport)

How to apply for Fast Track

In order to apply for a Fast Track passport, you must first get a paper application form from your local Post Office. Following this you need to book an appointment online and pay the fee.

Once the application form is filled in you will need to gather all the necessary documents before attending your Fast Track appointment. The documents you need will include two identical printed passport photos, the completed application form in paper as well as supporting documents (the booklet that comes with the paper form will tell you what supporting documents you need).

How to get a passport urgently

There is an even quicker service the government offers if you are willing to pay extra.

An online premium service allows you to book an appointment online - with the earliest you can get an appointment two days from when you apply.

You’ll get your new passport at your appointment which can last up to 30 minutes.

It costs £177 (or £187 for a 50 page frequent traveller passport).

You can only use Online Premium to renew an adult passport that was issued after 31 December 2001.
