The core part of upgrading gear in Destiny 2 is actual cores, Enhancement Cores that is. Enhancement Cores are necessary for upgrading armor and weapons to build them toward Masterwork quality and give them a stat bump across the board.
While Unstable Cores are used to infuse gear past 200 Power, Enhancement Cores are used for everything. Weapons, armor, and even Ghost shells need Enhancement Cores for you to Masterwork and infuse them. The higher the gear Tier, the more materials you need to upgrade it, so if you’re aiming at Tier 5 drops, make sure you have enough resources.
Here’s every way to get Enhancement Cores in Destiny 2.
Every way to get Enhancement Cores in Destiny 2
Portal activities

Unsurprisingly, one of the main ways to get Enhancement Cores is to play activities in the Portal. Regardless of the reward rank, there’s a chance to obtain Enhancement Cores upon completing the activity. Enhancement Cores can also drop from enemies during the activity as purple motes.
To increase your Enhancement Core gains from activities, use the Core Harvest mode on your Ghost. It allows you to earn bonus Enhancement Cores when completing ritual activities (this includes the Portal).
Gunsmith bounties

Banshee-44 is one of the few vendors that still has his bounties available. Every day, you can pick up four calibration bounties, awarding one Enhancement Core each. These calibration bounties usually require you to get kills with a specific weapon type, like hand cannons or element.
Dismantle gear

One of the easiest ways to get Enhancement Cores is to dismantle unnecessary weapons and armor. Enahcnement Cores can drop if the gear piece is at least Masterwork Tier 4, so if you have multiple unused Masterworked weapons or armor pieces in the vault, it might be worth finally getting rid of them.
Xûr’s Strange Offers

Xûr arrives during the weekend, bringing a selection of materials, weapons, and armor for you to buy using Strange Coins. If you don’t have anything else to spend your Strange Coins on, like Exotic Class items or Exotic armor, Enhancement Cores can be worth it.
Rewards Pass and Seasonal Hub

Both the Rewards Pass and the weekly Seasonal Hub rewards track have Enhancement Cores as rewards. Log in every week to complete weekly challenges (there are weekly seasonal challenges and weekly Seasonal Hub challenges) and get these rewards.
Exchange Enhancement Prisms

In some cases, it might be easier for you to get Enhancement Prisms than Enhancement Cores. You can exchange three of them per week for five Enhancement Cores at Rahool in the Tower. After you use the offer, you can pick up a blue rarity armor piece from Collections, upgrade it to level eight, and dismantle it to get six Enhancement Cores (you have to spend an Enhancement Prism and two Cores, though).
Hawthorne

Suraya Hawthorne also kept her vendor reward track, which has Enhancement Cores on it. While you’re in a clan, completing activities grants clan reputation and increases Hawthorne’s rank. Playing the game with clanmates grants a large bonus to progression, making it perfect if you enjoy doing dungeons and raids.
