How to get Batterfly Beans in Palia

Palia may be a cozy game, but its enigmatic Elderwood region has even the most seasoned foragers scrambling to uncover elusive quest items. One such item is the Batterfly Bean, which has got many of us confused about where to look.

Batterfly Beans are a type of crop exclusive to Elderwood and crucial to the Bugging Out quest. They are foragables, meaning you can find them growing in the wild.

You don’t need any special equipment to collect and put these beans in your inventory. But locating a small plant in a vast mystical region like Elderwood with minimal clues is the main challenge. Don’t worry, though—our guide is all you need to stock up on these seemingly delicious beans.

Here’s everything you need to know about Batterfly Beans in Palia.

Batterfly Beans can be found growing at the bases of Elderwood trees: it’s a small green plant with pink beans. Make sure to check the bushes that grow near the roots of these trees, as the plant often camouflages itself among them.

While these trees appear all over Elderwood, we’ve been able to find Batterfly Beans in and near specific locations only:

  • Mitana Grove
  • Honeymiel Slope
  • Deep Woods
  • Jenesse Pass

Below are maps marking the exact locations where we found Batterfly Beans during our adventure.

For the Bugging Out quest, Najuma requires you to find three Batterfly Beans (among other items) and give them to her, so she can craft you some Special Smoke Bombs for your bug-chasing activities in Elderwood.

One Batterfly Bean plant gives you one to two beans. So, you’d have to look for at least two of these plants. Just keep looking around the locations we suggested and you should be able to get enough beans.

Besides the Bugging Out quest, you’ll also be required to deliver 10 Batterfly Beans for Chayne’s hidden quest, Magic and Maji. But considering their spawn rate, finding so many of these beans is certainly an exhausting task.

Thankfully, when you collect a Batterfly Bean plant, you don’t just get the bean. You also receive a couple of seeds, which you can use to grow your own beans. Just go to your housing plot, sow the seeds, water them, and watch them grow into beautiful plants. They require 2×2 plots like Spicy Pepper and Blueberry, so make sure you have enough space in your garden.

Once sowed, the seeds take a while to grow. You have to keep them hydrated during this time or they’ll stop growing. You’ll also need to remove any weed that grows near them. If you’re in a hurry, you can use SpeedyGrow Fertilizer, which will boost your Batterfly Beans’ growth rate by one in-game day for every two in-game days it grows naturally. You’ll need four fertilizers for one Batterfly Bean plant.
