Last Epoch Season 4 has introduced the Rune of Corruption item that completely changed how weapon customizations used to work until now. This specific item allows you to take your weapon past its limits with the help of Corrupted Affixes. However, there's a risk involved in the process as well.

How does Rune of Corruption work in Last Epoch
So, the Rune of Corruption is a new crafting material you can find in Season 4. When you use this rune on an item, it will either massively improve it or weaken it (the item can also become unusable). This happens via Corrupted Affixes.
Not all outcomes are positive, and that's the risk that you run. Once you use the Rune of Corruption on an item, you lock it out from receiving any modifications. Hence, you'll need to use it pretty carefully.
How to get Rune of Corruption in Last Epoch
There are two ways to get the Rune of Corruption.
- Defeating Omen during an Omen Window encounter will allow you to get the Rune of Corruption. The two-phase fights can be found in Monolith of Fate and the campaign. Phase one involves Omen empowering the nearby enemies. Defeat them to enter the second phase, and deal with Omen.
- You can spend Timeglass Fragments at Apophis in the End of Time to directly purchase Rune of Corruption. Apophis also sells you Corrupted Items, where you don't need to take the risks.
How to use Rune of Corruption in Last Epoch
Once you find a Rune of Corruption and have an item to affix, complete the following steps.
- Open the Forge, and place the item you want to modify.
- Choose the Rune of Corruption that's available from crafting materials.
- Confirm once the prompt appears.
The outcome will be completely RNG-based, and here's what can happen.
- You can get a new Corrupted affix that's exclusive to this method. You can also get a normal, champion, or experimental affix. The upgrade can also maximise the values of some of your existing affixes or boost stat rolls to the highest possible tiers.
- You can get negative results that can completely render the item useless. The rarity of your item might also decrease. Some of the existing affixes might get weaker, or they might get removed as well.
