How to get £10 of Morrisons shopping - which would otherwise go to waste - for £3.09

Shoppers can use an anti-food waste app to grab a box of bargain groceries from Morrisons.

The supermarket has teamed up with the Too Good To Go app , which offers customers cut-price 'magic bags' of takeaway food and groceries for a fraction of the full price they would cost if ordered off a restaurant menu or bought inside the supermarket.

The only slight catch is the produce will be past its 'best before' date, but it will not be past a 'use-by' date and is perfectly safe to eat.

Too Good to Go says: "All Too Good To Go orders are a 'magic bag' of surplus food that stores would otherwise throw away if they weren’t rescued."

At Morrisons across the North East, customers who use the Too Good To Go app can get a 'magic bag' of groceries for £3.09. The value of the box, if bought at full price, would be around £10, according to the app.

So what does the box contain? The goods will usually be fruit, vegetables and fresh produce from Morrisons' 'Market Street' aisle.

On Too Good To Go, Morrisons says: "The Magic Bag: Rescue a Market Street Magic Box consisting mainly of a variety of fruit and veg, but also items including products from the bakery, cakes and maybe even cheese."

One customers reported to ChronicleLive that they used Too Good To Go in Morrisons in Morpeth. Their box contained 24 eggs, three loaves of bread, mushrooms, tomatoes and onions. If you've got a big family, a freezer or can make a soup, you could save a lot of money - and cut food waste.

Morrisons in Birtley, Seabun, South Shields, Jarrow, Blaydon, West Denton, Cowgate, Byker, Tynemouth, Killingworth, Whitley Bay, Blyth, Morpeth, Alnwick, Berwick, Chester-le-Street, Consett and Bishop Auckland are all part of the scheme.

To claim the offers, you must download the Too Good To Go app, register and find the 'Groceries' section. Your nearest Morrisons will then indicate if they have any Too Good To Go boxes left for that day. Be quick though, there is only a limited number.

One you order, you are given an in-app receipt to take to the supermarket, which you can show to staff to claim the box.
