How to Fly With Broken Wings by Jane Elson - review

Jane Elson, How to Fly with Broken Wings

Willem Smith is not like other kids. Other kids get equations and spellings for homework, he gets a project of making two friends. Already tortured enough by Finn and his gang of bullies, Willem is nowhere near completing the task his teacher set for him. But then he finds a friend in Sasha, whose dream is the same as Willem's: to be able to fly. When the two local gangs riot, the Beckham Estate is thrown into chaos. However, Magic Man Archie is there to help and helps the kids change their lives. Also, maybe with the help of Archie, Willem and Sasha may achieve their dreams.

This book was a very good read with plenty of twists and turns which kept you reading. It was very hard to put down and a decent length, so it is good for boys and girls aged about 10-14. It is slightly hard to get into and switches perspectives which is a bit hard to get used to. There is very good character development and you get to know a lot about their personalities, the people around them and their relationships with them. All in all, a very good book for older children.
