How to get cheap flights to New York ( iStock )

Every so often, Jack Sheldon from Jack’s Flight Club selects a flight deal from the UK for Independent readers that you can’t afford to miss. This week: return flights to New York for £218 return.

The best way to get to the Big Apple is with a small price.

United Airlines is showing some great-value fares from Manchester to New York during the autumn. London also has some great fares at the moment for travel throughout the year, thanks to to competition on the route, with British Airways generally coming out cheapest.

If you want to hop across the pond to experience the city that never sleeps, read on to find out how to grab these cheap deals.

How to book

Head to Google Flights and enter either London or Manchester as your departure city along with New York as the destination. You may want to add a “non-stop” filter to the “stops” option to help find the dates included in this deal.

Use Google Flights’ calendar tool to help you highlight the best travel dates (they’ll show up in green).

You can book directly with the airline for slightly more flexibility to make changes later (ie lower date/time change fees) or, to save an additional £25 or so, head over to Skyscanner, re-enter your itinerary, and book with the online travel agent offering the lowest fares.

From

London (LHR) – £259

Manchester (MAN) – £218

To

New York (NYC)

When to fly

The lowest fares from Manchester are in September-October, while London has dates from late April through to early 2020.

When to book

These fares should be available for two to three days at least.

Pro Tip

Transatlantic flights typically don’t include a checked bag in the basic fare any more. However, sometimes online travel agents on Skyscanner will allow you to add a bag to your booking for around £30 less than the airline would.
