How to fix sound muffled issue in VALORANT

Struggling with muffled audio issues in VALORANT? As a competitive FPS title, you can’t really play it without sound effects. Don’t worry, though—sound bugs in VALORANT aren’t as uncommon as you think, and nor is it unfixable.

Here’s our guide on how to fix the muffled sound or audio issues in VALORANT.

VALORANT muffled sound or audio issues: Fixes and workarounds

If you’re unable to hear anything in VALORANT or are losing the audio randomly while in a match, well, get in line because a lot of us have been there. Thankfully, these are the only fixes you’ll need to diagnose the cause and eliminate the sound bug for good.

Check if servers are down

Before you try any workaround, it’s important you check whether your VALORANT server is down or undergoing some sort of maintenance. You can confirm this by tracking the game’s official page on X, or if you’re one of the first people to face this, check out community pages on Reddit or recent X posts from other players.

You can also ask your teammates or players on the enemy team if they’re facing the same issue at the same time. If yes, it’s likely a bug you can’t fix yourself or requires specific handling.

Switch to wired headphones

If you’re using wireless buds, it’s time you switch to the more reliable wired headset. Don’t worry—you don’t have to switch permanently. Players have previously reported temporary issues with bluetooth headsets after certain updates, so you may suffer from the same bug too.

Check your headphones and sound settings

Check if your headphones working properly for anything outside of VALORANT? If yes, it’s likely an in–game bug. If not, time to pull it out of your device and re-insert it. Check if you’ve accidentally selected a different primary sound device than the one you’re using. First check your device sound settings and then in-game audio settings (Settings > Audio) too.

Restart the game

If you aren’t mid-game or can spare to AFK during a round (like eco rounds), you can try restarting VALORANT. This usually solves the sound muffled issue when it’s a minor glitch.

Run VALORANT as admin on PC

If you haven’t tried this already, right-click on the executable and select Run as administrator. This is one of the official workarounds for audio errors in VALORANT.

Disable surround sound

If your headphones support a surround sound mode, make sure it’s disabled as it may cause issues with audio in VALORANT.

Reinstall VALORANT

If nothing works, try uninstalling and reinstalling the game to fix any corrupted game file.

If none of the workarounds fix your problem, it’s likely a unique internal issue that requires Riot’s attention. We recommend submitting a support ticket, explaining the situation, and a qualified someone will get back to you with a curated solution.
