Palworld’s Terraria update brings the fishing mechanic to the game, where you can play a minigame and catch high-level pals by looking for specific spots on the map.
There are a few ways of catching high-level pals in Palworld, but if you don’t like to get your hands dirty with a fight and want a cozier way of increasing your water pals, fishing will work the best for you. It allows you to catch water-type pals, which can also be alpha pals and come with the rare rainbow passives.
How to craft a Fishing Rod and Baits in Palworld
There are different kinds of fishing rods and baits in Palworld, and you can unlock the one that fits your needs from your technology tree. A higher-level fishing rod makes it a bit easier to catch the pals. You also need to unlock baits and craft them using some unique plants. Now, once you have unlocked the baits in the Technology Tree, you can use any workbench or production line to craft them to use them for fishing. Here is a table showing all the baits and what they do in Palworld:

How to find fish shadows for fishing in Palworld
Once you have your fishing rod and bait, find the fish shadows in the water to start fishing. You can’t fish directly in any water around the islands, so you’ll have to look for stars or the blue outline around pals swimming in the water. The best way to find these specific fishing spots is to use a Jetragon or any swimming pals to find and fish these outlines. Once you have them, get off the pal and start fishing using your fishing rod and select the bait that you want to catch the fish.
Sometimes, there are stars above the pal under, and based on the color, it could mean that it is an alpha pal or has a rainbow passive, which makes them one of the best pals to catch from under the water. Be patient during the minigame as it gets harder for bigger pals, but it should be relatively easy if you’re using the best bait and rod.
How to build a Fishing Pond and assign pals to fish for you
There are two kinds of Fishing Ponds that you can unlock from the technology tree. You can unlock the small Fishing pond in the early game, but it also gives you access to small and medium fish shadow water pals. However, when you build the big Fishing pond, you can also choose to fish for the big shadow water pals and get a large number of items.

You can’t fish by yourself at these fishing ponds, so you need to assign a pal with a high handiwork work attribute to make them fish for you passively while you focus on other important things. We suggest pals with the highest handiwork, like Anubis, Selyne, and Splatterina, to help you fish passively and reap the benefits without worrying about fishing.
Once you have assigned the pal, choose the shadow you want and put 10 baits for each fish and item, which you can collect from the cooler next to the fishing pond.
