Even if you're confident with your camera, establishing an individual creative style as a photographer is tough. Learning your strengths, weaknesses and preferences can take years of experimentation. This informal but informative course takes the error out of all that trial and error. Join Guardian photographers Kevin Rushby and Andy Earl for this practical and inspirational weekend designed to help you establish a clear idea of your own photographic style and identity.
You'll learn how to master the manual functions of your camera to give yourself more options for self-expression, and explore the potential of post-production techniques. Most importantly, you'll take part in a range of photographic assignments, and receive in-depth personal feedback from the tutors on how to improve your technique and build upon your creative strengths. You'll also learn how to market the images you're proud of, and how to prepare them for gallery display. It's a unique opportunity to get supportive expert help in the process of defining and developing your own style, which will give you the skills and confidence to get out there and start making great images.

Course description
This highly practical masterclass focuses on providing attendees with detailed tailored feedback, to allow all participants to progress in their individual direction. The course covers the entire cycle of what makes a good picture, from camera handling to post-production, but concentrates on helping attendees define their personal style. Topics covered include:
- Taking control of your camera: master the complex instrument that is the modern digital camera
- How the tutors developed their own styles, and how you can identify and refine yours
- Critical examination of your work to identify strengths and weaknesses
- Intensive analysis of attendees' pictures by Kevin and Andy, to help you see how to move forward
- Post-production: live demonstration of how photographs can be prepared for publication or display
- Marketing and selling photographs
PLEASE NOTE: This course is not designed for novice photographers – all attendees should have their own DSLR camera and be comfortable using it. House computers will be available on the second day, when attendees will be able to upload photographs taken during field work.
Tutor profiles
Kevin Rushby is the Guardian's chief travel correspondent and photographer. Kevin has shot pictures everywhere from the high Himalayas to the bottom of the sea. He is also an award-winning film-maker.
Andy Earl is a professor of photography at Norwich University and has been a leading professional for many years. His work includes an award-winning video for the Rolling Stones, two stamps, three published books and, recently, a portrait session with Prince Charles – although he is possibly best known for his album sleeves for Pink Floyd, Bow Wow Wow, Madonna, Robbie Williams, Johnny Cash and others.
