The start of a new year often brings with it hope and the promise of a clean slate - and now a new Instagram filter says it can predict how your 2020 will pan out.

Instagram filters are nothing new, and a number of them have caused a stir in recent weeks with users all over the world finding out what sort of Pokemon or Disney character they are.

And the latest filter to break the Internet claims to predict how your 2020 will go, by giving you a word to describe your year.

The 'in 2020 I will be' filter takes your selfie and then decides on one of 12 possible outcomes: married, watching Netflix, dead, single, sad, happy, a winner, rich, poor, smiling, hungry, or reading a book.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to get the 'in 2020 I will be' filter on your Instagram Stories.

STEP 1: Remember to have the latest version of Instagram downloaded

If you don't have the latest update on your smartphone, you won't be able to use the filter.

STEP 2: Visit @filippo.soccini's profile and scroll across across to his filters, which is the third option sandwiched between IG TV and tagged photos

STEP 3: Click on the '2020 predictions' filter and an image similar to this will appear:

STEP 4: Press 'Try It' or click 'save this effect' to access it using your in-app camera

STEP 5: Find out how your 2020 will pan out and share it with your friends!
