How to find out which tier your area is in under new lockdown system

A new three-tier strategy of local lockdown measures for England has been announced by Boris Johnson in efforts to curb rising Covid-19 rates.

The Prime Minister told the Commons on Monday that this will “simplify and standardise” local lockdown rules.

Different areas of England will be split up into medium, high and very high alert levels.

These three tiers represent an advancing scale of local lockdown restrictions.

However, rather than trying to wade through lots of information, you can put your postcode in on the government website to find out exactly what tier your area is in.

The Government has announced people can search for what lockdown rules affect them by using their postcode.

The PM said people can use the Government portal to search for which tier their postcode would fall under.

The PM also said there would be a four-week 'sunset clause' for interventions in very high areas.

Speaking during the announcement, he said: “We will also keep these measures under constant review, including a four-week sunset clause for interventions in very high areas.

“A postcode search on Gov.UK as well as the NHS Covid-19 app will show which local alert level applies in each area and we’re also publishing updated guidance to explain what the Covid alert levels mean for those who are clinically extremely vulnerable.

“And while these levels specifically apply to England, we continue to work closely with the devolved administrations to tackle this virus across the whole United Kingdom.”
