The restaurants in the North East which are taking part in Eat Out to Help Out scheme

Hundreds of restaurants in the North East have signed up to take part in August's Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

Diners can get 50% off food and soft drinks when they eat in participating restaurants, cafes and bars on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in August.

Many restaurants in the North East have signed up the scheme, including Malmaison, Tomahawk Steakhouse and Aveika.

The Eat Out to Help Out scheme got under way this week.

The discount can be used as many times as diners like, but only up to £10 per person per meal. It can not be used for alcohol, although coffee shops such as Costa will apply the discount to hot drinks, if the customers opts to sit in.

To help you find restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars taking part in the scheme near you, we've teamed up with our local listings website InYourArea to create this widget.

All you have to do is enter your postcode below (click 'View On InYourArea' if results don't display automatically) to find details of participating businesses on your doorstep.

If you can't see the search box on your device, click 'view interactive content'.

The discount applies to food and soft drinks only, so you'll have to pay full price for any booze you order, and any service charges if those are added to your bill.

Best of all, you can use it as many times as you like during August and restaurants will be fully reimbursed by the Government for the money you save.
