Progression in Battlefield 6 can be painful, with every weapon taking hours upon hours to level. While playing the game normally will eventually increase both your weapon Mastery and Rank, you can do a few things to maximize XP gains and open up new gear faster.
Here’s everything you need to know about starting with the XP grind and leveling up fast in Battlefield 6.
Best ways to farm XP in Battlefield 6
Play to your class strengths

Every class in Battlefield 6 has unique traits and gadgets to earn extra XP. The key is to focus on their strengths and take advantage of every piece of utility. As you unlock more gadgets, there will be new avenues to rack up XP during a game.
Here’s what to focus on every class to get more XP:
- Assault: Assault has faster progress with objectives, including arming and disarming M-COM explosives in Rush. This class also has a lower cooldown on the in-combat state, allowing teammates to respawn quicker. On top of that, you can also deal a bunch of chip damage with grenades and gadgets like M320A1 HE.
- Engineer: Engineers damage enemy vehicles with rockets and repair friendly vehicles with the Repair Tool. They also have AV Mines, Supply Crate, and M4A1 SLAM gadgets in their arsenal for more passive XP gain.
- Support: Support is a more consistent class to gain XP. Apart from quickly reviving teammates using Defibrillators, this class can constantly distribute ammo and health with the Supply Bag and the Supply Pouch.
- Recon: Recon class has lots of built-in traits to passively spot enemies, but you can take it to the next level using a Recon Drone. Recon Drone marks all enemies (either passively and actively) within its high range, and can even destroy enemy gadgets.
Dedicated role play is certainly more rewarding than going for kills alone, and prioritizing assists with objectives is the way to go. This doesn’t make kills less important, though, as you still need to use your weapons to increase their Mastery level.
Complete challenges

The main way to progress in Battlefield 6 is not only by gaining Rank and Mastery levels, but also by completing challenges. Challenges unlock new gear, cosmetics, and some also award a healthy chunk of XP.
There are a few challenge types in the game: daily, weekly, assignments (permanent), and campaign challenges. It’s always worth targeting at least one challenge in any match you’re playing if you want to make the most out of each session.
Maximize XP tokens and boosters

For completing challenges, you also get XP boosters, which temporarily increase the XP you earn. There are two types of boosters: Career and Hardware. Career boosters increase Rank XP gains, while Hardware increases weapon and vehicle Mastery XP gains.
There are multiple ways to get boosters apart from completing challenges, but always use them in the XP Boost menu in the mode select screen to earn as much XP as possible during the session.
Join XP farm lobbies in Battlefield Portal

The Portal lets you join or host custom games with bots for rapid XP gains and progression. This is especially useful when you want to complete an annoying challenge you know you won’t be able to do in regular multiplayer.
Look for server names with “XP,” “farm,” or “bots” in the name, as these are optimized for fast matches against AI. Inspect the server before joining to see what it awards XP for, and avoid servers that only focus on match completions.
Ideally, you want to host your own server (if you’re lucky enough to escape the Global Game Quota Exceeded error). On public servers, too many players often shoot each other, making farming difficult.
Here’s how to create your own server in the Portal:
- In the main menu, scroll down to the Community tab.
- Select Search Experiences.
- In the Experience Code, use codes like XFCP (for general XP) or XGEK (for vehicle farming).
- Select the experience and choose Host.
- In the setup, add a password to avoid others joining and ensure it’s not a persistent server.
- Launch the server.
After searching for the experience using a code, you can also browse available servers for that specific setup.
Unfortunately, EA is determined to prevent you from using the Portal to kickstart your progression. You may not get weapon XP by playing these modes, and the developer will further diminish the number of XP farms in the Portal. At the same time, expect improvements and faster XP gains in traditional multiplayer.
Play CQB modes

Smaller 8v8 modes, such as Domination and King of the Hill, offer more concentrated infantry action without any vehicles to worry about. They are perfect for leveling weapons, as they put you in the middle of a firefight almost all the time.
Modes like Breakthrough are also great thanks to a large number of players fighting over a relatively small sector, creating huge opportunities for revives, assists, suppression, and multi-kill bonuses. Breakthrough is better if the weapon you’re leveling isn’t as useful in close-quarter combat, like the M2010 ESR sniper rifle.
