How to enter the Galway Races Virtual Ladies Day best dressed competition

The Galway Races are taking place behind closed doors this week due to Covid-19, but the best dressed competition will still take place on Ladies Day - virtually.

The seven-day festival usually attracts thousands of racegoers to the West, but it will be a much different spectacle this year.

Thursday is Ladies Day and women can get dressed up at home and enter the best dressed competition.

Here's everything you need to know about it:

  • Best Dressed Lady
  • Best Hat

How to enter

  • Take a picture of yourself as if you were going to Ladies Day at the Galway Races
  • Organisers ask that you make a small donation to a charity of your choice
  • On Instagram post your photograph using the hashtags #HerVirtualBestDressed and  #IMadeMyDonation  then tag the charity of choice, @galwayraces_official and @Herdotie
  • Entries open at 10am and close at 4pm.
  • Finalists will be announced at 5pm on social media.
  • The overall winner of both categories will be announced at 7pm.
  • Organisers say the finalist’s and overall winner of the Best Dressed and Best Hat need to be available for interview in their race day outfit from 5pm.

The prize

This year’s Best Dressed winner will win a luxury two night spa break in the Galmont Hotel and Spa in a superior sea view room, including dinner, spa treatments and complimentary champagne on arrival, along with two VIP hospitality tickets to the Monday of the Galway Races 2021 Summer Festival – valued at over €1,000.

The winner of the Best Hat Competition will also will a two night break in Galmont Hotel and Spa in a Sea View king room, with dinner on one evening and afternoon tea included.

What channel is it on?

RTE will show racing live from Galway on Thursday, with their coverage starting at 5.30pm and running until 7.25pm.
