We love reading your emails. The Newsblog inbox is a neverending stream of great blogs, good ideas and sage suggestions. Unfortunately these gems are interspersed with emails which are destined for deletion: spam, yes, but also messages clearly meant for other parts of the site: submissions for the Guardian's letters page, or emails that plug a site but fail to mention the URL or link to a newspaper article without any explanation of why you want to flag it up.
So in the spirit of Dan Gillmor's letter to PRs, I thought it would be helpful to explain what you can expect when you send an email to the Newsblog email address: weblog@guardianunlimited.co.uk:
First, and most importantly, due to the volume of emails we receive, we can't answer all of them but we do look at every one: the inbox is checked every weekday. And if you suggest a link - either to someone else's site or blog, or your own - that we decide to feature on Newsblog, we will always reply to your message
Make sure that the subject line of your message is informative: blog suggestion: myblog.co.uk is better than hello
We don't link to web feeds, so please don't send them
If you are writing to tell us about your blog, make sure you include the URL (it's amazing how many people exclude this vital piece of information), your name and a couple of lines about what your blog is about and why you have created it. If your blog is new, it's best to wait until you have written a few entries: it's hard to get a feel for a blog from a single post
Don't send attachments or HTML emails
Don't use the Newsblog email address when you are trying to contact other parts of the Guardian Unlimited site or the Guardian newspaper. There is a comprehensive contacts page here to help you direct your email to the right department
When suggesting a link, if you make a comment that is meant for Newsblog's ears only and you do not wish it to be repeated on Guardian Unlimited, or if you would prefer for your name not to be mentioned on Newsblog, please say so in your message
