How to donate to hero taxi driver David Perry's GoFundMe after Liverpool explosion

Liverpool taxi driver David Perry has been branded a hero after a homemade bomb went off inside his cab outside of Liverpool's Women's hospital.

A homemade bomb was detonated by a man named by police as 32-year-old Emad Al Swealmeen.

Al Swealmeen detonated the bomb in the cab just before 11am on Remembrance Sunday and died at the scene.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Four men were arrested under the Terrorism Act, but have since been released from police custody without charge.

Perry was treated for his injuries and discharged from hospital.

In response, a number of fundraising internet pages have been set up in his honour.

David Perry is known to be local to Liverpool and part of the Delta Taxis team in the city.

Perry is reported to have locked Al Swealmeen in the taxi before the bomb detonated, but his wife Rachel dismissed this a 'rumour'.

"I would just like to thank each and every one of you who have messaged asking how David is. He is doing ok but is extremely sore and just trying to process what’s happened.

"There are a lot of rumours flying round about him being a hero and locking the passenger inside the car, but the truth of the matter is he is, without a doubt, lucky to be alive," she added.

Shocking footage shows the cab exploding and the driver scrambling away a moment later.

"The explosion happened whilst he was in the car and how he managed to escape is an utter miracle. He certainly had some guardian angels looking over him.

"I would like to thank the amazing staff, doctors and nurses at the hospital, you were all amazing and also to the police officers and detectives who have been looking after us."

How to donate to the fundraising pages

Funds were set up in honour of Perry after the incident.

Friends at Blueline taxis and the Merseyside and West Lancashire Drivers created a fund on Facebook, which has already raised £27,000 of its £100,000 target.

This particular fund was set up by Jenny Phillips, who said: "David doesn’t work for me, but he is still part of a very big taxi family and we will always salute you every year on Remembrance Day.

"David is home resting with his family now. The fund is simply to help a family and a good guy who didn’t deserve this. He has a lot of recovery to do but deserves a medal for his actions."

On Go Fund Me, ‘the lads out The Saddle, Kirkdale’ created a fund that has already surpassed its intended target of £20,000 and currently has over £33,000.
